Iowa Flooding, May 2008 Part 2

This I believe is Des Moines, Iowa, Spring, 2008, during the excessive flooding, with all the flooding all across the State, mostly in central and eastern areas, like Cedar Rapids, which were totally inundated.

The flooding began in late May, with heavy rainfall, and kept everyone high and wet for over a month or so, all thru June, and into July. The text below the photos was from the newspaper online webpage.

(I sent the following to local Ames Tribune, and also the Des Moines Register newspapers recently (Aug. ’08), and have no idea if they published them).

After all the flooding in Iowa, should we wonder about our own plight compared to another, more "famous" flood and plight in the Deep South? Should we ask ourselves:

Why are there no Hollywood celebrities holding telethons, performing in benefit concerts across the country, and asking for everyone's help in restoring Iowa, and helping the folks affected by the floods, as they did after the "Katrina" event in New Orleans?

Why are there no major media news anchors asking tough questions about why the federal government hasn't solved some, if not many, of the problem before it happened?

Why does FEMA, an alleged "emergency" outfit, take two weeks or two months or more to decide if we deserve their benevolence, when FEMA decided that New Orleans got it immediately?

Where are the FEMA trucks (and trailers) for our Iowa displaced homeless?

Why isn't the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago, or Omaha (well forget Omaha, they're probably as bad off as we are!) as they did `down South'? And for free, no less!

When will Hollywood's more famous Black movie producer say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines, as he did with New Orleans? Or maybe that should be a White movie producer? (There are one or two, you know).

Why isn't the Federal Government giving our Iowa flood victims $200 vouchers that they can spend on whatever they want; even maybe useless drivel, such as alcohol and vice, as some other Katrina examples did?

Where are all our looters in flooded areas in Cedar Rapids, or in Des Moines or other places in Iowa, stealing high-end tennis shoes, and big screen television sets, and shopping carts filled with booze, twinkies, stolen clothes, and everything else they can lay their hands on, and committing all manner of crimes elsewhere? Where are they among us in Iowa?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of cannibalism, rape, and murder in emergency shelters, or other places Cedar Rapids, or Des Moines? Or anywhere in Iowa? Show us.

When will we hear Iowa Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a "vanilla" Iowa , because that's the way God wants it, as the New Orleans mayor openly and obviously said was his intent for a "chocolate city" for Black people? (Dare we ask for it?).

Where are the people declaring that George Bush or Government officials hate White, rural people in Iowa, by denying or delaying flood assistance, the way Blacks said of Whites during Katrina?

Why is it that after so many  weeks after the flooding, we never hear nor read about the Iowa flooding in mainstream national TV or print news, but "New Orleans" is still with us?

When was the last time George W. Bush visited Iowa's misery? And "promised" something?

Should we wonder why our misery is unrequited by the Celebrity Town and Big Gov't, if it is because of our State-wide lack of cultural and racial "diversity," and our having no desire for it, and then ask if this has anything to do with our being abandoned to our own saving grace?

Should we diverse ourselves, and maybe invite even more of the "chocolate city" or "windy city" residents to live with us, so we can get our fair share of attention and money? (We certainly could not do it 'down there': Iowans aren't welcome in New Orleans, unless "just visiting" - - with plenty of tourist money!).

Why is all this? Ask yourself. They won't.
